Hello, I was 14 when we departed for Perth from Gatwick on the 14th July 1970. We travelled with Caledonian Airlines (a Boeing 707 on charter to Qantas) via Karachi and Singapore. The trip was exciting for a 14 year old boy I remember the aircraft sitting alone in the desert at Karachi airport while all the passengers were taking a short rest in a tin shed while the locals were trying to sell us wind up tin toys.

I was so impressed with the trip that I decided to become a pilot myself – My first solo was in 1972 (Jandakot airport) and I have been flying ever since.
